You'll work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality assessment and treatment for patients presenting with urgent and minor illness and injury.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

  • Assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and safely manage patients presenting with urgent, undifferentiated illness and minor injury within the Urgent Treatment Centres.
  • Deliver high-quality urgent primary care across both Poole and Bournemouth Urgent Treatment Centres, supporting service resilience and equitable patient access.
  • Provide senior clinical decision-making, ensuring safe, effective and timely management of patients in accordance with national and local clinical guidance.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including Advanced Practitioners, Nursing staff and Allied Health Professionals, to deliver coordinated patient-centred care.
  • Determine the most appropriate onward management for patients, including discharge with advice, referral to community or primary care services, or escalation to secondary care where clinically indicated.
  • Support the avoidance of unnecessary Emergency Department attendances and hospital admissions by managing appropriate patients within the Urgent Treatment Centre.
  • Contribute to maintaining patient flow through timely assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities including audit, quality improvement, incident investigation and learning.
  • Work flexibly across both Urgent Treatment Centre sites to meet service demands and support operational resilience.

Poole Hospital will increasingly focus on elective and planned care, alongside the development of a 24/7 Urgent Treatment Centre.
