Health & Wellbeing Coach – weight management and community physical activity

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Health & Wellbeing Coach to support the delivery of community-based physical activity and weight management interventions. This varied role will involve working with a diverse range of participants, including families with young children, people with learning disabilities, and adults looking to improve their health through increased physical activity and healthier lifestyle choices.

You will support individuals through both one-to-one and group-based weight management programmes, using coaching and behaviour change techniques to help people achieve and maintain sustainable lifestyle improvements. The role will involve building and managing a caseload, monitoring progress, and accurately recording outcomes and service data.

The successful candidate will help deliver engaging activities such as community walks, cycling programmes, early years physical activity sessions, and other wellbeing initiatives designed to encourage people to move more, eat well, and improve their overall health and wellbeing.
The ideal candidate will have experience of coaching and motivating individuals to make sustainable lifestyle changes, particularly in relation to physical activity, healthy weight, and wellbeing. They will be confident delivering sessions in community settings, building positive relationships with participants, and supporting them to achieve their personal health goals. The role also involves organising activities, monitoring participation and attendance, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to programme evaluation and reporting requirements.

The successful candidate will be committed to delivering inclusive services that reflect the diversity of Blackburn with Darwen, supporting residents from a wide range of backgrounds and helping to reduce health inequalities through accessible, community-based health and wellbeing programmes. The role may also involve supporting the delivery of community health checks and wider health improvement initiatives across the service.

Key requirements:
• Relevant fitness, physical activity, sport, health or wellbeing qualification at level 2 or above.
• Experience delivering community-based physical activity programmes.
• Experience supporting individuals with lifestyle behaviour change and weight management.
• Experience working with early years, people with learning disabilities, or other diverse community groups.
• Knowledge of walking, cycling and inclusive physical activity initiatives.
• Strong organisational and administration skills, including attendance monitoring and record keeping.
• Experience of using monitoring, reporting, or case management systems to record participant engagement and outcomes.
• Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
• Excellent communication and motivational coaching skills.
• Ability to work flexibly across a variety of community venues and outdoor settings.
